Studio Ghibli

A world of imagination, wonder, and unforgettable stories that have touched hearts across generations.

The Magic of Studio Ghibli

Founded in 1985 by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki, Studio Ghibli takes its name from the Italian word for "hot desert wind" — symbolizing the fresh perspective they aimed to bring to Japanese animation.

For over three decades, Studio Ghibli has created 22 feature films that blend fantasy with deeply human stories, environmental messages, and complex characters. Their most commercially successful works include "Spirited Away," "Ponyo," and "Howl's Moving Castle."

"The concept of portraying evil and then destroying it - I know this is considered mainstream, but I think it's rotten. This idea that whenever something evil happens someone particular can be blamed and punished for it, in life and in politics, is hopeless."

Hayao Miyazaki

"I've become skeptical of the unwritten rule that just because a boy and girl appear in the same feature, a romance must ensue. Rather, I want to portray a slightly different relationship, one where the two mutually inspire each other to live - if I'm able to, then perhaps I'll be closer to portraying a true expression of love."

Hayao Miyazaki

"The creation of a single world comes from a huge number of fragments and chaos."

Hayao Miyazaki

"Always believe in yourself. Do this and no matter where you are, you will have nothing to fear."

From 'The Cat Returns'

"Life is suffering. It is hard. The world is cursed. But still, you find reasons to keep living."

From 'Princess Mononoke'
